These are the merino pieces we make for winter: fibres of 80 to 100 millimetres and 17 to 19.5 microns, finished at 120 grams and woven in a 250-year-old heritage mill.
Merino is the layer that stays on. Its natural crimp holds air against the skin and its surface moves moisture away rather than keeping it there, so a scarf worn out into the cold does not become uncomfortable the moment you step into a heated room. At 120 grams there is nothing to unwind and carry.
Long staple is what keeps the cloth even. An 80 to 100 millimetre fibre holds the yarn smooth through daily winter use, so the scarf sits close at the neck without weight and stays that way at the fold, where it is worn hardest.
The colours are chosen for the season. Dark green, burgundy, coffee and navy hold their depth in low winter light. Light grey and camel sit under a coat without asking for attention. Orange and sky blue are the ones that lift a dark overcoat on a grey morning.
