How to wear men’s fur coats and jackets
Men's fur coats and jackets are worn most convincingly with everything underneath kept plain. The jacket is cropped and easy, so it sits over a knit without adding width at the shoulder, and it is the one to reach for at the weekend. A short coat over a suit is the smart-casual version: the fur does the work and the tailoring stays quiet beneath it. A long coat left open reads better than one fastened, because the length keeps the vertical line unbroken; fastened, it becomes a silhouette of its own and wants a narrower shoe.
Take the size you normally take; the cut allows for a jumper underneath without pulling across the back. Shake the coat out after wear and hang it on a broad hanger with room either side, so the pile is never compressed. Brush in the direction of the fur to lift it, spot clean rather than washing, and keep it away from direct heat. Kept that way, men's fur coats and jackets hold their shape and their surface season after season.
