Each one is handwoven in multi-ply knits from long-staple fibres of 34 to 42 millimetres and 13 to 15.5 microns, in a 250-year-old heritage mill.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWound twice at the neck and drawn up, a cashmere scarf covers the throat, the mouth and the ears, and stays there against wind without being adjusted. The extra ply is what allows it: a denser cloth turns weather rather than only insulating against it, and does so without the bulk that would sit badly under a coat collar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e Long-staple fibre is what keeps a winter scarf worth owning past its first season. A longer staple holds the yarn together under daily use, so the cloth stays even and soft at the fold, where a scarf worn every day from October to March takes the most wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e With a fur coat, wrap it at the neck and let the collar close over it for the warmest version. Left to fall down the front of an overcoat it becomes the plainer winter layer, and under a suit a solid colour will go unnoticed, which is usually the point.
